BCF – Bio concentration factor

“Bio Concentration Factor” (BCF) is a measure of how much of a chemical substance accumulates in the tissues of organisms relative to the surrounding environment.

This factor is determined by experiments on aquatic organisms and expresses how much of the chemical substance the organism retains in its body when exposed to it. Substances with high BCF values are considered bioaccumulative and the use of such chemicals is of particular importance in environmental risk assessments.
