Androgen receptors (ARs) are cellular proteins that bind to testosterone and other androgen hormones, regulating processes such as reproductive function, sexual development, and other hormone-dependent biological activities.
In chemical safety assessments, androgen receptors are evaluated to determine whether a substance may interfere with the endocrine system. Chemicals that interact with these receptors can disrupt normal hormonal signalling and may act as endocrine disruptors.
Under the KKDIK Regulation, the potential effects of chemicals on androgen receptors may be assessed as part of evaluating endocrine-disrupting properties and associated health risks.
