Intermediate

Intermediate” refers to a substance manufactured and consumed in chemical processes during the production of another chemical substance.

Intermediates are temporary substances used in the production of a final product or another chemical compound and are completely or partially transformed during these processes. Intermediates only function in processes where chemical reactions take place and are consumed as part of these processes.

In this context, intermediates can be divided into two groups: isolated in situ (used within the same facility) or isolated in transit (transported to another facility). In both cases, they must be processed under strictly controlled conditions.
